Men's Club Meeting Minutes

Saint Ambrose Men’s Club

Meeting Minutes

8:00 Thursday, June 22, 2006

1)     Norb Tennessen called meeting to order and led opening prayer.

2)     Roll Call  - 15 members present – Officers present:  Tennessen, Rebholz,  Kelly

3)     Meeting Theme: Faith & Spirituality (Prophetic Leadership)

a)      As a reminder, we now conduct monthly meetings with a different theme on a rotating basis:  Faith & Spirituality; Fun & Games; Business/Administration.  We hope that you have some interest in all three themes and over time you are able to attend as many as your schedules allow.

4)     Guest Speakers

a)      Report of Mission Trips and World Youth Day by Melissa Schisler.  Melissa thanked the Men's Club for their financial and prayer support.  She gave an inspiring, informative photo presentation of her mission trips in recent years (Pine River Indian Reservation and Benton Harbor MI)…World Youth Day in Cologne German (August 2005).  This year's youth ministry mission team leaves June 24th for St. Louis Mo.  At recommendation of Men's Club board our annual $1000 stipend to youth mission trip was increased by $500 (one time exception) to cover fuel expenses.

b)      Center for Bio-Ethical Reform by Marlys Honeyman.  Marlys is a parishioner at Saint Ambrose and the Regional Director of CBR for Minnesota & Dakotas. CBR is a pro-life activist group.  Marlys presented a provocative, compassionate and compelling case for an end to abortion abortion – In this, she covered the hard truths of abortion with a video recording of an actual abortion.  Whatever may be your disposition on the abortion issue, if you have never seen real pictures troubling as they are, you ought to see these "in your face"  pictures.e.  If you're "on the fence" or have the view that this is a free choice matter and therefore none of my business, this story is likely to start you thinking about this issue in a different light.

You may have seen the airplane circling overhead dragging an abortion tow banner.  This is CBR's Air Campaign.

Questions concerning CBR before the Men's Club are:

(1)     Where else should Marlys be taking the CBR story (mission, genocide awareness project (GAP), Reproductive Choice Campaign (RCC)?  (e.g. other audiences – inside and outside SAW).

(2)     What Prophetic Leadership responses does this issue inspire us to take – individually and as an organization?

The executive board will pursue these questions and bring recommendations to a future meeting.

Meanwhile, here are ways for you to learn more about CBR on your own:
